Recently, I've been sharing with the groups I work with that this is the first time in 17 years that I haven't been in traditional "back to school" mode. Meaning, this is the first time EVER that I am not starting school in my own classroom or library. Instead, I've been traversing the countryside helping other teacher librarians in my state start THEIR school year on the right foot. I've got to be honest, it's been super rewarding work, but... I miss the back to school jitters that always accompanied those first few days of a new school year. Still, it's been exciting to help others get ready and to feel like I've played a tiny role in prepping lots of libraries for lots and lots of kids. In fact, when I put it that way, it feels pretty awesome!
That said, now that most school districts (at least in my corner of the world) have started back, I'm excited to report that one of my more recent back to school traditions is continuing per usual: The TL Virtual Cafe "Back To School Special!" featuring Gwyneth Jones, Tiffany Whitehead and moi!
I cannot wait. It's going to be made of awesome!
Here are the deets:
When? September 9th at 8:00pm EST
Who? You, silly!
I really hope you'll join us for an hour filled with innovative and practical tips for starting your school year off with a bang. I don't know what the other ladies have up their sleeves, but here's a sneak preview of my section which will be all about taking steps NOW to make sure you have lots of data to collect, analyze and share later. I'm still putting it all together, of course, but I can promise you this: there WILL be fun. There WILL be tips/tricks/strategies. And there WILL be zombies! (An aside: I was tempted to call this slide "Zombie librarians leaplumber about slowly and aimlessly before they look!" but I couldn't get it all to fit in the text box. Bummer.)
So... mark your calendars and join us if you can. See you there!
